Parymon Corp to Support NOAA Fisheries with Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Operations and Maintenance

Parymon Corp is proud to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC), through specialized Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) operation, maintenance, and scientific data support services.

The Northwest Fisheries Science Center uses advanced optical technologies deployed from AUVs to collect information on fish and their habitats, helping modernize fisheries data collection and improve the responsiveness of fisheries management to changing ocean conditions. This work requires specialized technical expertise in AUV operations, underwater optical surveys, navigation systems, imagery, and scientific data management.

Through this effort, Parymon personnel will provide technical and scientific support for SeaBED-type and similar bottom-tracking AUVs, including Micro-AUV systems. The work will encompass vehicle maintenance, camera calibration, underwater imagery review, data quality control, database management, data archiving, and support for at-sea AUV operations.

Under this support, Parymon will provide services across several key areas:

AUV Maintenance & Systems Testing

Parymon personnel will assist with maintenance of AUVs at NOAA facilities in Newport, Oregon, including laboratory testing of functional systems, inspection of high-pressure housings, vacuum testing to verify housing integrity, and examination of thrusters for excessive wear. Maintenance activities and test results will be documented to support reliable AUV operations.

Underwater Camera Calibration & Imaging

Our team will support pre- and post-fieldwork calibration of camera systems used on uncrewed platforms. This includes collecting in-water calibration images and analyzing calibration targets to help ensure the quality and reliability of underwater imagery collected during research operations.

Scientific Data Analysis & Quality Control

Parymon will assist with reviewing image quality at sea, conducting quality analysis and quality control of imagery and database information, and producing dive-by-dive data summaries using established graphics routines.

Data Management & Cloud Archiving

Parymon personnel will support the testing of new technologies and procedures for archiving AUV data, documenting data-management protocols, and maintaining information stored in cloud environments. This work will help support consistent and accessible management of scientific data collected through AUV operations.

At-Sea AUV Operations

The team will participate in bottom-tracking AUV operations, including managing and documenting navigational information and acoustic communications, developing or reviewing mission plans, assisting with AUV launches and recoveries, maintaining pre-launch checklists, and supporting equipment transport.

Parymon is honored to support NOAA Fisheries' Northwest Fisheries Science Center by providing specialized engineering, AUV operations, underwater imaging, data management, and at-sea technical capabilities that help advance fisheries research and improve understanding of marine ecosystems.
