Parymon Corp to Support NOAA Fisheries Research on Deep-Sea Benthic Marine Resources
Parymon Corp is proud to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC), through specialized research and analysis supporting the assessment of benthic marine resources along the U.S. West Coast.
The NWFSC conducts scientific research and analysis that provides a foundation for management decisions related to the protection, recovery, restoration, and sustainable management of West Coast fisheries and their Essential Fish Habitats. This effort focuses on using advanced technologies and innovative analytical approaches to improve the assessment of deep-sea marine resources.
Through this support, Parymon personnel will provide scientific expertise in analyzing imagery collected by Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), identifying deep-sea fish and invertebrates, managing and analyzing scientific datasets, and supporting the development of improved approaches for species identification.
Under this effort, Parymon will provide support across several key areas:
Deep-Sea Species Identification & Image Analysis
Parymon personnel will identify benthic fish and invertebrates captured in AUV underwater imagery and provide expertise to support the assessment of deep-sea benthic communities. Personnel will also assist researchers and team members with species identification and provide supporting materials to improve identification processes.
Data Management & Statistical Analysis
Our team will prepare and enter information derived from underwater imagery into designated databases, conduct expert analysis using appropriate statistical methods, and help ensure the integrity and usefulness of scientific datasets.
Machine Learning & Scientific Technology
Parymon will support modernization of data workflows by applying species identification expertise to the training and testing of machine learning models designed to improve automated object detection in underwater imagery. These capabilities will help enhance the efficiency of data analysis and quality assurance processes.
At-Sea Research & AUV Operations
Personnel may provide scientific support during research cruises, assisting with the planning and conduct of AUV operations designed to maximize data collection in deep-sea habitats likely to support sponge populations.
Scientific Reporting & Knowledge Sharing
Parymon will support the development of presentations, scientific reports, and draft publications summarizing findings related to benthic marine resources. Deliverables include species inventories, descriptions and imagery of newly identified deep-water species, machine learning model files and performance metrics, summarized AUV dive data, presentations, and report drafts.
Parymon is honored to support NOAA Fisheries' scientific mission by applying marine science, data analysis, advanced imaging, and emerging machine learning technologies to improve understanding of deep-sea benthic ecosystems and support science-based management of West Coast marine resources.
